Several Shootings Leave Residents Baffled at Response by Law Enforcement

SPRING HILL, FL – Residents of a typically quiet neighborhood in Spring Hill are up in arms over recent shootings, and one woman says the Sheriff's Office is ignoring the problem.

Over the last few years, Spring Hill has seen a rise in violent crime, including shootings, stabbings, carjackings, and home invasions. Many say Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis has ignored the problem for political reasons and consistently claims crime is down in Spring Hill.

Rebecca Kielbon and her family live in the area of Monarch Street and Marshall Ave, and she says her family was woken by gunfire around 4:00 a.m. Friday and again later that evening. Kielbon provided this surveillance video that clearly shows a muzzle flash along with several loud bangs.

Kielbon called 911 but said deputies did not arrive on scene until around 8:30 a.m. that morning. Kielbon says there didn't seem to be a sense of urgency by responding deputies despite one round being found lodged in her fence. Other neighbors reported the same incidents and provided additional surveillance video.

There are two classifications regarding the discharging of firearms in Hernando County: shooting in the area and the more urgent classification of an actual shooting. At this time, it's unknown how the call was classified.

Later that same evening, Keilbon says there were more shots fired in the area, and again there was no response by law enforcement. She believes Nienhuis doesn't want incidents like this to be made public because it harms his reputation.

There have been no public statements released by the Sheriff's Office on social media, their urgent alert App., or by official statement to the press.

R New will continue to follow this incident for any new developments.
