BROOKSVILLE, FL – A contentious battle over who will run Hernando County Animal Services will come to an end tomorrow after County Commissioners cast a final vote on the measure.
Tempers flared last October when outgoing Commissioner Beth Narverud refused to allow the newly elected commission to make the final decision.
Narverud and Sheriff Al Nienhuis conspired to remove control of Animal Services over the last two years, despite pushback from residents who believe the plot was purely political.
Narverud lost the election to newcomer Ryan Amsler, but it is unknown at this time which way he will vote on the issue. Commissioners Jerry Campbell, Brian Hawkins, and John Allocco are expected to support Nienhius after they voted alongside Narverud in October.
Commissioner Steve Champion calls the effort "corrupt" and says he will vote no on the measure.
The hearing is open to the public and can also be viewed live on the County Government Channel.
R News will bring more on this story as it develops.
