Emergency Preparation Details Regarding Tropical Storm Helene

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – Here is the latest from Hernando County Emergency Management and State Officials:

Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency for 41 Counties throughout Florida, including Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus Counties.

There is a mandatory evacuation order in place that includes zones A, B, and C west of US-19, beginning at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Officials say anyone who remains in their homes will not receive emergency services once tropical storm-force winds reach the area.

A shelter will open at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at West Hernando Middle School located at 14325 Ken Austin Pkwy in Brooksville. The shelter is open to the General Public and special Needs, and is pet-friendly.

All non-essential officials will be closed tomorrow and Thursday, including all schools and after-hours programs. Pine Island Park closed at 3:00 p.m. today.

Hernando County is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning, with storm surge expected to reach between 6-10 feet along the coast.
