Woman Struck and Killed After Stepping out of Vehicle

NEW PORT RICHEY – A Land O Lakes woman died this morning after being struck by a vehicle on SR-54.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Honda Civic driven by a 40-year-old woman was stopped on the edge of SR-54 near Crescent Moon Drive. A Ford Explorer driven by a 21-year-old Lutz attempted to pass the vehicle when, for unknown reasons, the woman opened the driver side door and stepped into the path of his pickup truck. As a result, the woman was struck and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
