Two Stabbing Investigations Underway in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL – The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investing separate unrelated stabbings that occurred this week, but the details of those incidents are not being released.

The first incident occurred Saturday on Treehaven Drive, according to neighbors who contacted R News, but the Sheriff's Office has not responded to requests for information regarding the incident. One source says the male victim suffered non-life-threatening facial injuries.

The second incident occurred at 5289 Florentine Street around 3:30 a.m. this morning, but there is no information available regarding the victim or suspect. Again, officials did not respond to our request for comment.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis is touting that "crime is down" as part of his campaign strategy but residents tell R News that cannot be the case.

Public Information Officer Denise Moloney has not responded to R News in over two years, preventing the community from receiving critical updates on possible violent suspects and other crimes. With Nienhuis poised to flip the switch on the agency's radio encryption if he is reelected, the community will only receive information that the PIO wants to release. Sheriff Nienhuis does occasionally respond to questions but avoids questions about violent crime, or his refusal to implement body-worn cameras.

Since Sheriff Nienhuis announced his bid for reelection, he has slowly removed the transparency from the agency's website. There used to be a cold case page where all open homicide investigations were listed, but after the "botched" Ariana Ptarcinski case made headlines, Nienhuis deleted the link. The agency also had a real-time Active Call or CAD portal but now it is delayed by as much as an hour and the classification of calls is often changed or non-existent. Just in the last few days, R News received complaints about the agency removing access to the detention center page. There were two separate portals to the detention center, but the one most residents are familiar with is no longer there. There is real-time access by following THIS LINK.
