One Person Confirmed Dead in Early Morning Double Shooting

SPRING HILL - The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting that occurred at a residence on Marquette Street.

According to officials, deputies responded to the 11000 block of Marquette Street before 5:00 a.m. this morning, where they discovered two adult females who had suffered gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other was transported to a trauma center.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis says the incident started as a home invasion and that the victims and suspects are most likely known to each other.

Officials have not released any details regarding the suspects but it is believed they have left the area.

Sources we spoke to, who wish to remain anonymous, say this was a "hit job" and an execution-style homicide.

There are reports that nearby Springstead High School was not placed on lockdown during the early stages of the investigation, which has some parents concerned.
